CIMENTARE

Cimentare bottle

100% varietal, the 2021 Cimentare is a stunning wine that is unlike anything from this region. Dark chocolate shavings and blueberry compote alongside wet rock and shades of black licorice all mark the nose. The palate is juicy and concentrated with serious stuffing and mouth-watering acidity. Ridiculously good in terms of viscosity and richness, enjoy now and over the next ten-plus years. Drink 2024-2034

Made entirely from Malbec grown on the San Tommaso Estate Vineyard (the wine was originally labeled as Malbec San Tommaso Vineyard), the 2022 Cimentare comes only in magnums (there are only 831 of them) and is well worth the splurge. Super-soft, pillowy tannins melt into well-integrated oak, the wine aged 22 months in 75% new French barrels. The blue fruit is bold and feral, leaning even tart, with an electric energy throughout bursts of pipe tobacco, graphite, cardamom, and lavender. This is an impressive achievement and tremendous statement on the potential for Malbec in The Rocks. This will age more slowly in magnum; 20-30 years in bottle shouldn’t be a question.

“The 2023 Malbec Cimentare is from one unicorn block of the producer’s San Tommasso Estate Vineyard, a varietal rarity in The Rocks that’s blended with 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and fermented with native yeast in concrete, then aged 22 months in 50% new French oak. Blueberry spice exudes from a core of full-bodied, pillowy texture that’s both feral and refined. Secondary notes of tobacco, graphite, and cardamom round out the picture. It holds its acidity fiercely, with super plush tannins, verve, and energy. This wine is only available in magnum, with 996 in existence. Given that, it should age 20-30 years no question.”
