Made entirely from Malbec grown on the San Tommaso Estate Vineyard (the wine was originally labeled as Malbec San Tommaso Vineyard), the 2022 Cimentare comes only in magnums (there are only 831 of them) and is well worth the splurge. Super-soft, pillowy tannins melt into well-integrated oak, the wine aged 22 months in 75% new French barrels. The blue fruit is bold and feral, leaning even tart, with an electric energy throughout bursts of pipe tobacco, graphite, cardamom, and lavender. This is an impressive achievement and tremendous statement on the potential for Malbec in The Rocks. This will age more slowly in magnum; 20-30 years in bottle shouldn’t be a question.
